An IDP is required if your license is written in non-Latin script — Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Thai, Russian, and so on. The IDP serves as an official translation of your license and must be carried alongside the original.

Booking tips for young drivers

If you are under 25 and renting in Iceland, here is how to minimize cost and avoid surprises:

1. Use a comparison engine. Some providers are more generous with age policies than others. A comparison search shows you which companies accept your age group and what the total cost is with the surcharge included.
